sorry to bother, but we (POWERSTRIP CIRCUS) are running over the web to find new friends who love great music and like good music. the music can be varied from hard electro to dope hip-hop to smooth lounge. the core agreement is the love for music; and a lil skewed to the left -- sometimes.

so, we started POWERSTRIP CIRCUS (PSC). living in music centrist NYC we always want more folks to send us music, write about music (that we hope to one day be able to pay), enjoying all the fresh music.

June 4th, we are having a big ol' launch bash in NYC.

PSC Launch | Coco 66 | 66 Greenpoint Avenue | Brooklyn | 5 BUCKS | 10pm - ?? [http://powerstripcircus.com/?p=1699]

PSC will have dope DJs. dope live acts. pretty girls. and liquor to buy.

but outside of talking about us... which i hope you will... i'd love to get you to write a story or 5 about music on PSC. let's talk. and thanks for the moment.

Cheers. Yes, they did 'War Sucks' on Saturday night too- 'Revolution' merged into it and it was very effective. I didn't mention it as I'm not familiar with the original, and thought maybe they were just improvising. Thanks for enlightening me.

Nice review. I saw them at the Boston Arms in Tufnell Park the night before, and although they eventually filled the venue - not too difficult as it's hardly 02 - the set had both high points and low points, with some sonic problems that I don't think were intentional. Nonetheless, as I went to the gig "equipped" (as it were) I still managed to enjoy a good three quarters of it.

"Revolution" was indeed great, however, and they encored with a cover of the Red Crayola's "War Sucks" (also just as relevant now as when it was written), which was equally incendiary.

Good review. I too missed the dry ice and the twin drummers but like you say still a good gig. Long may we climb the hill to worship at the temple of drone :).

Some pics from the gig if you haven't seen them:

Sounds pretty interesting - at least, I like the Auteurs (although I was never quite so keen on Suede) will see if there are any tracks available for download when I get home tonight. Is Julia Laird-Clowes the sister of Nick Laird-Clowes (him of the rather ace Trashmonk and the not-so-cool Dream Academy)?

Hi Andrew,

The MP3- Judee Sill's 'Jesus was a Crossmaker,' on the offchance that anyone else is reading this and wondering what we're on about- certainly sounded familiar, and sonically was of a piece with the kind of music I was remembering in 'After the Flood,' so it's highly likely I had heard it back then. That's an excellent review you wrote, too. I'm not too familiar with Judee Sill's work; as you say, she tends to be criminally overlooked in such supposedly authoritative tomes as Barney Hoskyns' 'Waiting for the Sun: the story of the LA music scene,' which I'm holding here now and she isn't even in the index! I shall make a note to investigate further.

Take care,

 Ben
